Visiting Château des Marais in the Loire Valley

It's been rather quiet on the blog this past week and that's because I took time out to devote all my attention to my family. Yes our annual trip to France to see the in laws called and we took the trip from Portsmouth with Brittany Ferries across the Channel.

Fun on Board Brittany Ferries

In previous years we've missed out on the theatrical show the Princess and the Pirate but not this year. Despite my eldest asking me "what are they doing mummy?" She was happy to have her photo taken with them and get her sticker and tiara.

On departure from the boat the girls soon fell asleep in the back of the car. We decided to take full advantage of this and drive straight to the campsite without stopping on the way there.

Camping at Château des Marais

Our campsite Château des Marais in the Loire Valley was a great place in which to spend a few days and nights before reuniting with family further north. I'd heard about the campsite having read the Travelynn's post on the area and decided to have a look at the website. We noticed that the prices had been halved for the last week so decided to check it out for ourselves.

We are so pleased that we did for it was a lovely place to stay for a few days. The boulangerie with it's delicious bread was a little walk away and the supermarket in Mer was a great place in which to stock up with necessities. There was even a food shop on site that my husband visited.

The girls quickly made friends with the neighbours and even jumped out of the bedroom window one morning to be with them!

The campsite was also well equipped with playgrounds, swimming pools and slides as well as a kid's club run through July and August. With so many things to do on site it's not surprising that some families chose to stay put and not venture out of the complex.

However, it was not long before we decided to explore the area and experience a few of the attractions Loire Valley has to offer.
