W is for Water Play

We're back again with another letter of the #ABC123Challenge and this time we've had lots of fun with the letter 'w'. With this Summer's heatwave well and truly upon us I'm sure you will agree that the most refreshing word beginning with w to be heard is 'water'.

W is for Water Play

We've been surrounding ourselves with water increasingly recently. We have hit the town to take in the sprinklers - getting drenched only to go back in once we are dried down and tried to drink from them! We've got our drinks bottles out and carried them with us and we've played in the bath. We even got out the paint brushes and showed us that we can practice our brush strokes on the concrete with a little water.

 A Little Water Pouring

W is for Water Play

Eldest began with a little water pouring as she transfered water from a watering can to the sand bucket. If you want to extend this pouring activity then consider setting up a water station with various vessels and other utensils. You could also add food colouring.

Dip the Paint Brushes in the Water

Once the water had been transfered we dipped the paint brushes in the water and applied it to the path. While eldest had fun brushing the path with water. I tried drawing some shapes and asking her to tell me what they were. I also considered a noughts and crosses game but thought her to be too young for it presently.

So there we have it a few activities perfect for cooling down in all this heat. For other ways to cool down why not check out my posts on ice and sinking and floating. Do let me know how you've been trying to keep cool in all this heat.

  7. Oh yes, there has been water aplenty in our back garden over the last few weeks. It's usually resulted in chattering teeth and a shivering body - but it's been much needed! Thanks for sharing with #TriumphantTales

Thank you for stopping by and linking up with #keepingitreal

  24. Such a set of simple ideas. Robert loves playing with water outside and in this hears been worth it. He uses his watering can to water my plants which is amazing for me! ‪Thank you for linking up to the #familyfunlinky‬ you are doing amazingly with the #abc123challenge almost at the end!!

  25. Water play is definitely needed in this heat. My two love getting the water pistols out and while they are usually under strict instructions not to get mummy I actually don't mind in this heat! They also like using them to spray the windows (give them a cloth to wipe it down afterwards and you have nice clean windows!) and the youngest likes cleaning rocks with them too. Never thought of giving her a paintbrush too, she'll love that.

  31. Water play is the perfect way to help cool down in this weather as well. I've never tried water painting - I'm not sure it would work well on our path but it might be worth trying on the fence instead. It sounds like your girls had a lot of fun :-) #countrykids
