Once upon a time there was a mother who wished not to scare her children with horrors of Halloween but delight her little ones with all the joys of the season. She found her answer came through a fairytale book home to a prince, a fairy godmother and two ugly sisters. The name of this book as I'm sure you will have guessed is Cinderella.g.
Heading home from preschool one Friday my youngest headed to bed while my eldest wanted to keep going. To appeal to our craft loving side I decided that we'd put on the adaptations of Cinderella that we have and do a little crafting.
We started by creating wands. I must admit to cheating a little for I had bought precut wands for decorating from a well known pound shop which came with tissue paper, glue and to my eldest daughter's delight glitter glue too.
As the card was particularly thin I decided that it would be good to glue two of the wands together. The pack came with 6 wands so we created two and left one for youngest to play with when she wants to.
Being the eager beaver she is eldest soon started to cover everything in glitter till I told her that once we'd covered things in tissue paper she'd have to do it all over again. We then took to covering the wands in glue and sticking down the tissue paper. I chose to leave it to dry then came back in with the scissors and cut the tissue paper to shape. We then decorated the back before using the glitter we had left to go on top of the wand this time.
After we had created the wands we decided to have a go at apple printing. My eldest had a lot of fun applying paint with a paintbrush to the apple in orange paint then applying it to paper. Once dried I cut out the pumpkin and got out the pva glue. I found some circular pieces of card for wheels and gold paper for the windows. I also had a white paper leaf amongst my craft stash perfect for a pumpkin. So with a wave of our magic wands our carriage was all set to go to the ball.
Of course all this crafting made us quite hungry so we headed to the kitchen. There I brought out the cookie cutter in a pumpkin shape and cut the sandwiches with it. My daughters love the cookie cutter sandwiches I've created them and are soon back for more.
So there you have it an afternoon of craft and creativity fit for a princess. If you'd like to extend this study you could try creating a glass slipper, model castle or creating a crown.
How will you choose to celebrate the season?
