What's in the Girls' Autumnal Book Basket?

With temperatures in their 30s in France we got back to the UK feeling we were well and truly in the clutches of Autumn. Change was certainly in the air and in the nature surrounding us. Perhaps the most noticeable change is that in the autumn leaves as many are falling from the trees this year as well as changing colour. The beautiful shades of red, orange, yellow and green are noticeable and if you look closely some leaves sport a number of these colours on their one leaf.

Which Autumnal Books Do We Have?

What's in the Girls' Autumnal Book Basket?

Leaves and the wind are noticeable in our autumnal books alongside pumpkins. I like to rotate the books seasonally and many of them have stayed with us for a few years now such as 'Guess How Much I Love You in the Autumn' by Sam McBratney and What Small Rabbit Heard by Sheryl Webster and Tim Warnes. Whereas the girls love of Peppa and Peter Rabbit is also more noticeable.

An Autumnal Activity

What's in the Girls' Autumnal Book Basket?

I thought it would be lovely to wrap up warm and head to the park where the seasonal change was very apparent. Together the girls and I had fun gathering autumnal treasure in our basket. Some I'm sure may have fallen from the girls basket in their excitement to rush around with it but some managed to stay with us and got used in our autumnal suncatcher in the shape of a pumpkin. To create this you will need the following

  • Black Card
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Fallen Leaves
  • Contact Paper

Take a piece of black card, cut out a pumpkin shape and add the contact paper making sure to leave enough over the sides to stick to the window. Then arrange the autumnal treasure you have collected on the contact paper. As you can see pine cones got added here but as they are not flat they didn't stick to the creation for very long. Once the area is covered stand back and admire your handy work before placing it on a window. You could also try creating a simple suncatcher using petals.

Have you swapped out your seasonal books yet? Do you have any recommendations for books or other activities that we could try?

  12. Hi Helena, I do love your seasonal book baskets. Books were a big part of my childrens childhood and if they were younger the basket is something I would have done, for sure. One of our favorite books was about a giraffe called Cardwell and how he managed to tie his neck in a knot. It's a fun book I would recommend for your girls... I do like the suncatcher, it's just what you need this time of year.

Thank you fo linking up with#keepingitreal
