X is for Xray

We are nearly at the end of  the #ABC123Challenge hosted by Karen of Two Tiny Hands and this time the letter is 'x'.
X is for Xray

As my daughter likes to play with a doctor's set both at home and her Grandma's and doesn't mind some mess. I thought she'd enjoy pretending to create xrays.

 Draw Around the Hands

X is for Xray

The first thing we did was get some black paper. We used coloured paper left over from our astronomy activity but constructive card works just as well. Then get a white crayon and draw around your child's hand with it. Of course you could also create a bigger hand by drawing around yours or getting your child to. Eldest certainly was keen to draw around mine.

Hand Drawn Hand Prints

Once drawn it's time to break out the pva glue and apply it to the paper. Then add cotton wool buds/swabs as the bones for your fingers. You may like to adjust where your child places them on the hand slightly to allow for all five fingers to have bones.

Exploring Together

Eldest and I often kick off the activities and learning but we are often joined with youngest. She tends to watch over proceedings and try to join in where she sees fit. She tried her hand at mark making and touching the cotton buds and glue.

Books About Bones

I also thought we could read Funnybones too but my daughters sat for half the story before running inside to see what their dad was up too instead. Oh well we can always bring this book back out around Halloween.

Have you tried doing any activities based on the body?

  7. We always used to draw around my daughter and then label the different parts of the body. We also have a fab puzzle which shows all the different parts of the body too - one skeletal/one muscular which she loves. Thanks for linking up to #coolmumclub and have a lovely summer! xx

  11. This is a lovely idea. We have a couple of books on bones and I've not thought to do this. Sticks and stick men would be another other fun way to explore bones. I love how your eldest is beginning to join, it is surprising how much they absorb at a very young age.

Thank you for sharing with me on #CountryKids

  16. Wow, what a wonderful learning activity. This is great. When my son was 5, we got together with a friend and did an organ study unit. We ended the unit with a brain based obstacle course. It was great fun! Here is a link to our obstacle course
