We're back again with another letter of the #ABC123Challenge and this time we've had lots of fun with the letter 'w'. With this Summer's heatwave well and truly upon us I'm sure you will agree that the most refreshing word beginning with w to be heard is 'water'.
We've been surrounding ourselves with water increasingly recently. We have hit the town to take in the sprinklers - getting drenched only to go back in once we are dried down and tried to drink from them! We've got our drinks bottles out and carried them with us and we've played in the bath. We even got out the paint brushes and showed us that we can practice our brush strokes on the concrete with a little water.
A Little Water Pouring
Eldest began with a little water pouring as she transfered water from a watering can to the sand bucket. If you want to extend this pouring activity then consider setting up a water station with various vessels and other utensils. You could also add food colouring.
Dip the Paint Brushes in the Water
Once the water had been transfered we dipped the paint brushes in the water and applied it to the path. While eldest had fun brushing the path with water. I tried drawing some shapes and asking her to tell me what they were. I also considered a noughts and crosses game but thought her to be too young for it presently.
Guess the Shape
So there we have it a few activities perfect for cooling down in all this heat. For other ways to cool down why not check out my posts on ice and sinking and floating. Do let me know how you've been trying to keep cool in all this heat.
Now this would be mu son's favorite as he loves water. X #MMBC
ReplyDeleteIt's great how kids just love water play! When I worked in a nursery they would play in the water tray in all weathers #globalblogging

we love washing the windows on a hot day - the simplicity of a 99p water squirter and a squidgy and the kids are occupied for ages!
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely the weather for water play, we've had lots over the past week too x

Oh yes, there has been water aplenty in our back garden over the last few weeks. It's usually resulted in chattering teeth and a shivering body - but it's been much needed! Thanks for sharing with #TriumphantTales
ReplyDeleteWater play is always fun. #keepingitreal
ReplyDeleteWe also love this activity. The kids have been "painting" my garden fences lately - should swap it for actually paint really, it'd save me a job! #TriumphantTales
ReplyDeleteBrilliant! We just got out a tub of water the other day and worked on pouring from a watering can, painting with brushes dipped in water, and had some fun with bath toys in the tub of water. Anything to keep them busy in this heat!

We love water play here! #DreamTeam
ReplyDeleteWe love playing with water! Its such a good idea to use brush to make marks on the pavements x #DreamTeam
ReplyDeleteHi Helena, water = summer fun! The best thing is probably that it's mess free. Your little girl looks like she's having fun and staying cool... If I were you I'd get her playing noughts and crosses now, it may be the only chance you have to win before she gets the hang of it!
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by and linking up with #keepingitreal
xx
This looks great fun :) And really cooling in this weather
ReplyDeleteCan'tbeat a bit of water play! My kids would love the shapes game #CoolMumsClub
ReplyDeleteAww I used to love doing water play with my little ones. Food colouring and scents in their water table water was always a winner here. #CoolMumsClub
ReplyDeleteBack again from #ablogginggoodtime
ReplyDeleteI used to include this in my lesson planning in Dubai, we could write with water everyday over there and we all dried off very quickly #keepingitreal
ReplyDeleteWater play is the best, although maybe not in winter, but in the warm weather mine have always loved painting the house with water, measuring and tipping and wetting the trampoline and having a jump. Thank you for linking up again this week #ablogginggoodtime
ReplyDeleteIt's always good to have a little water play at this time of year! Always a hit with the kids xx #blogcrush
ReplyDeleteFantastic! My little one loves water. I'll have to see if I can encourage her to use a paintbrush like this, rather than just splashing it everywhere! #CountryKids
ReplyDeleteMy little girl loves water play. It could keep her amused for hours. She often paints the fence with water! #thesatsesh
ReplyDeleteYou can't beat a little water fun in this heat. Painting with water is a lovely mess free way to create shapes and drawing, thank you for reminding me about this one and sharing with me on #CountryKids.
ReplyDeleteWater play is definitely needed in this heat. My two love getting the water pistols out and while they are usually under strict instructions not to get mummy I actually don't mind in this heat! They also like using them to spray the windows (give them a cloth to wipe it down afterwards and you have nice clean windows!) and the youngest likes cleaning rocks with them too. Never thought of giving her a paintbrush too, she'll love that.
ReplyDeleteThank you for joining the #FamilyFunLinky x
The perfect activity whilst we are enjoying this hot weather. My boys love water play. We have a water table and they spend hours playing with it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing with #MMBC. :)
Water play is so good isn't it?! Perfect for the weather that we are currently experiencing as you are never short of a blank canvas! #countrykids
ReplyDeleteI've loved water since I was a child. Water play was my favorite when I worked in daycare, it's so much fun to explore. #DreamTeam
ReplyDeleteKids love water! Mine could spend hours playing in the garden and I remember from my childhood I used to spend ages at the kitchen sink. Plus there is always bath time as well! #triumphanttales

ReplyDeletePopping back for #thesatsesh xx
ReplyDeleteHasn't it just been the perfect weather for water play. I've got to say even I find it really calming to just pour water from one container to another #blogcrush
ReplyDeleteWater play is the perfect way to help cool down in this weather as well. I've never tried water painting - I'm not sure it would work well on our path but it might be worth trying on the fence instead. It sounds like your girls had a lot of fun :-) #countrykids
ReplyDeleteMy two love to 'paint' the patio with water. I think the extra large canvas gives them even more scope to create what they want. Teaching shapes at the same time is such a great idea. Thank you for joining #ThursdayTeam
ReplyDeleteIt had to be water play didn't it?! #ablogginggoodtime
ReplyDeleteWere doing a lot of this lately because of the heatwave! Water is the best way to cool down! #countrykids
