This week the letter of the week in Karen of Two Tiny Hands #ABC123Challenge is 'V' and so we present to you a post all about activities on vehicles.
Whether you are a boy or a girl vehicles appeal to everyone and I think it is also a great way in which to round off our study of the weather. For they need the right conditions in which to operate.
Books About Vehicles
I started our study by collecting a number of books together on vehicles. We have many in our collection from Thomas the Tank Engine to the classic Railway Children. We also have a book on Angelina Ballerina featuring a canal boat and our That's not my plane added fun to the mix. We tend to read our books at night and read several in one go but reading doesn't have to be confined to bedtime.
Exploring Vehicles
Last weekend we were invited to Flywheel following our visit last year. Of course we said yes and the girls got to look at loads of different vehicles. They even got to try out what it feels like to sit in an aircraft as well as a fire engine. My eldest had the firewoman amused as she rushed across the grass towards her vehicle shouting nee nah nee nah. The girls have yet to see a proper episode of Fireman Sam but do point out the various community helping vehicles as they pass by. After a quick look at the fire engine the girls got to see the fire engine in action as they were on call and raced out of the complex.
Playing With Toy Vehicles
Back at home we got out the toy vehicles we have and had fun rolling their wheels in paint before applying them to coloured card. We sometimes look for tracks when we are out on our geocaching adventures and consider what animal has visited prior to us. So it was interesting to see what vehicles tracks may look like. The eldest had lots of fun with the paint and the white showed up really well against the pink card.
A Vehicle Wash
Once we'd finished with the vehicle track making exercise we grabbed some water and a sponge and created a vehicle wash. As each vehicle was cleaned up and all paint marks removed we moved them out of the shade into the full sun lit garden. There they dried up and were ready to be brought back inside the house.

ReplyDeleteMy youngest is mad about cars, balls and dogs which amuses me as his brother is not. He's starting to show an interest in 'toot toot' too but I really dislike Thomas stories and actively avoided exposing my oldest to them. I love bedtime stories too much to have to feel the groan of 'no not that one again, please!' #keepingitreal

How lucky were your girls and it's nice to see children so taken in that they are happy to NEENAWWW. ReplyDeleteVehicle tracks is a lovely idea and white on pink works really well. The flywheel event sounds a great day out too, all the more fun if you can sit in the vehicles and really experience them. I love how you have followed up the event here.
