How to Create a God's Eye with Yarn

When it comes to kids activities beginning with the letter 'y' my thoughts were drawn to yarn bombing. Something I've never personally done but have seen a number of stunning results. I even took part of one home with me a little crocheted heart. I can't knit and imagine that I'd be hopeless at crochet given that it is similar but we can all make things from yarn. So this week following Karen of Two Tiny Hands #ABC123Challenge letter 'y' is for yarn.
How to Create a God's Eye with Yarn

If you are looking for a project to do with the kids that doesn't need many components to create and you don't need to concentrate too hard to achieve. Then this simple creation called a God's Eye may be just the thing for you and yours to have fun making. I recall making these as a child but not quite as loud and colourful as this one.

To Create Your Own God's Eye You Will Need:

How to Create a God's Eye with Yarn

  • Yarn
  • Scissors
  • popsicle sticks
  • Tape - optional

Now for the Fun Part

How to Create a God's Eye with Yarn

Take two lolly pop sticks and glue them or hold them together to make a cross. Then take a piece of yarn and holding the end of the yarn tightly in place at the back of your cross begin to tie them together. I went around one side 4 times and then repeated in the opposite direction. You are now ready to start weaving in and out of the cross. When it comes to changing colours simply knot the ends of the yarn together and try hiding the knots at the back of the project. If you are a visual
person like me then you may find Red Ted Art's video also helpful.

Have you tried creating a God's Eye before? or do you think you'll have a go? As always we'd love to hear from you in the comments section below.

  10. Hi Helena, the God's eye looks like a fun thing to make. Making one could also encourage children to want to have a go at crochet or knitting. I've never made a God's eye before and can't knit to save my life, but last winter I started dabbling with crochet, which I did enjoy and plan to pick it up again in the autumn.

Thank you for popping by and sharing your craft with #keepingitreal.

    xx
