Think of the happiest things. It's the same as having wings. - Peter Pan
Our Body's Shadows
Play is the highest form of research - Albert Einstein
We began with her trying to create shadows herself as she ran around the house and garden. I asked her whether she could see her shadow or not. One place we could both definitely see her shadow was on a wall in the kitchen. As she stood next to it she decided to try out different moves and see what happened.
Toy Shadows
You can't use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have. - Maya Angelou
Then she decided to see if her toys had shadows if she placed them close to the wall. I don't think they clearly showed up at all but still she had fun from this creative exercise.
So there we have it a simple but fun activity to do in the summer sun. Have you tried shadow casting with your son or daughter?
I did a similar experiment when I was a child minder, we drew around each other's shadows with chalk so that the children could see how the sun moves around #cool umclub@_karendennis
ReplyDeleteMy daughter loves seeing her shadow and has a lot of fun making all sorts of shapes with her hands. #Thursdayteam
ReplyDeleteMy little one hasn't really discovered her shadow yet, but we're going to try to do some shadow drawings this summer with chalk for our bodies and with crayons for toys that can cast shadows. Looks like she had a ton of fun!

Really good fun and always makes such superb shadows. Fun learning too! #ThursdayTeam
ReplyDeleteThis sounds good fun and is a great idea at this time of year. My lot are very interested in their shadows too at the moment and we often try and photograph them. We'll try to get toys involved too next time as you suggest here. A simple activity we engage in is paddling in the stream in the park near us. Kids love it and it's warm enough to go in wearing waterproof shoes like crocs just in case there's any sharp things in there! #thesatsesh xx
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like lots of fun! My two littlest ones are shadow crazy too! I keep meaning to do some shadow art with them :) #mmbc
ReplyDeleteA lovely fun idea and something my little ones would enjoy. We will definitely try this #thursdayteam
ReplyDeleteHow fun! My youngest likes looking at his shadow. We have the perfect weather for it at the moment too.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing with #MMBC. x
