With the arrival of a new week comes a new letter from the#ABC123Challenge run by Karen from Two Tiny Hands. Following on from our little study on the (o is for) ocean last week we decided that it would be wonderful to look at who used the sea i.e. pirates which starts with the letter 'p'.
Our adventure began with the introduction of some books on pirates. We have a few from Usborne and have added one called The Night Pirates.
The Night Sky
Much of the action in The Night Pirates. takes place under the night sky so it was lovely to revisit a post we did right at the beginning of the #ABC123Challenge on astronomy. Here we applied yellow paint to a shape cutter and applied it to black paper to make a night sky.
Pirate Float or Sink Exercise
We then decided to have some fun building a Lego pirate boat. As the girls had so much fun recently at the London Science Museum with water I decided that we would have a little water play in our sink upstairs. We picked up things in the bathroom and guessed whether they were going to float or sink before placing them in the water. Many of the things we chose floated even the Lego pirate boat. You could alternatively try this experiment outside in a paddling pool.
A Pirate Sword Creation
Of course every little pirate needs to be equipped with their own little sword for fighting with. So we decided to grab some paint, cardboard, scissors and double sided tape and create one.

ReplyDeleteWe have read the stories of pirates book and we used to have a pirate book with fun activities and ideas that the boys enjoyed when they were younger. Your pirate floats and sink activity look like lots of fun. #FamilyFun

ReplyDeleteWe quite often play a game that my 2yo invented where we sit on a bed or a sofa and pretend it's a pirate ship - We have to avoid sharks, look for treasure and occasionally someone will walk the plank, it's great fun and brilliant to hear my kids imaginations running wild
