Over the weekend we headed West of the county to a place called Badbury Woods. We'd attempted to get there before for an arts exhibition but struggled to find it so came away feeling frustrated. This time we were determined to find the Easter Egg Hunt in conjunction with the National Trust and Cadburys.
As we approached the car park we were told to keep driving as the area was full. Some people had the idea of parking up a little further down the road and walking across the field so we followed suit and soon found ourselves at the start which also doubled as the finishing line. Many people had completed the course by the time we got there so we all merged and formed one big queue. The entry fee was £3 per entrant and there were 15 questions in total to answer on a little map of the woods.
After a little prompting our eldest soon realised that we were searching for tree stumps with questions on them. She pointed each out in turn as she found them. She did try looking behind the signs hoping that the Easter bunny had got a bit carried away with hiding eggs but alas found none until she got to the end of the hunt where she was awarded her prize. I was relieved that the quiz was not very difficult and that with a little support from hubby we each came to the same answers. I hated the thought that the girls would lose out if we got something wrong. Each question was geared to educating us about the environment while the other answers offered forward were there to amuse.
As we made our way around the area the girls enjoyed investigating the environment even more as there were dens to explore and wood was being climbed on. The girls seeing the actions of other kids didn't hold back and we got out the camera to capture what they got up to.
As the final question was answered and we found ourselves back at the start. Eldest was excited to hand her question sheet in to be marked. Thankfully we'd got the answers all right and the girls were thrilled with their prizes.

Our top tips for attending an Easter Egg Hunt with the National Trust and Cadburys at Badbury Hill Woods are
- Be aware of the size of the car park. This will lead to you getting there really early or descending later on in the day when the car park is quieter
- I didn't see any bathroom facilities in the area. So make sure you go before you arrive on site.
- Be aware that some areas such as the cenntre of the woods are under protection due to them trying to grow bluebells. Yes the logs surrounding this area can look tempting to walk along but really shouldn't be in case the children damage the ground.
- Dogs were found along the route as was their mess!
- The area is really easy to navigate with much of it being flat but the muddy conditions aren't great with wheels

ReplyDeleteSounds like a great and educational adventure. #countrykids
ReplyDeleteWe have done four NT hunts so far this year and are hoping to squeeze in a couple more
ReplyDeleteI do love the sound of the National Trust Easter Egg Hunts, every year I think I will just do clues and not hide actual eggs but on holiday here they love to hunt for the eggs, we are just about small enough to do this but I do now combine it with clues. Mine are fun ones from the farm but I like the idea of the educational ones the National Trust do. Well done your girls on completing the trail and getting their eggs. I hope they shared a little with you for helping with the clues!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing with me on #CountryKids
We headed to a National Trust too for the Cadbury hunt, it was great fun. It's lovely that they do this every year. Thank you for joining us at #SharingtheBlogLove

ReplyDeleteWhat fun. The National Trusts near us have been doing these hunts and it is always good fun for the kids. Very naughty that dog owners aren't picking up the mess. It always lets things down. Thank you for joining #ThursdayTeam x x
ReplyDeleteThank you for a nice and honest post about this day out, which looks like good fun despite the dog poo and the lack of toilets! 😉 x #ThursdayTeam
ReplyDeleteThe Cadbury egg hunts are brilliant we have done a few up here in Scotland, your one sounded like a fantastic day! X #adventurecalling
ReplyDeleteThe car park tip is a good one - we often fall foul of full car parks at National Trust properties! #ablogginggoodtime
ReplyDeleteI do love a good Easter egg hunt, sadly the kids are getting older, and loosing interest in the hunting, but mot the eating! #sharingthebloglove
ReplyDeleteOn the whole it sound lovely. It's great that the questions were geared around the environment but a shame they didn't seem to provide toilet facilities and some irresponsible dog owners could clear their mess. Thanks for joining us on #adventurecalling .
ReplyDeleteI love a good egg hunt. Finn was so excited this year, we only did a little one but for weeks after he kept hiding things for us to find. Next year we need to find a better and bigger outdoor one to do like this. Thank you for linking up #AdventureCalling
