How to Make Your Own Paper Lantern

There are so many things beginning with the letter 'l' and a couple of these we've even covered on our blog already namely 'ladybird' and 'leaves'. So when it came to the  #ABC123Challenge  with Karen of Two Tiny Hands we thought we'd come up with something different. This one reminds me of viewing a 'Watch with Mother' video tape as a child. So our choice for l is lantern an easy make unless you aren't familiar with scissors!

When I was first blessed by the presence of my daughters I was led to debate whether I should keep hold of or part with my arts and crafts. I chose to hold on to much of it and I'm so pleased I did for I'm now using it with my girls. This is one such make created from our arts and crafts stash.

To Create Your Own Paper Lantern You Will Need:

• Decorative Paper
• Scissors
• Pencil
• Ruler
• Tape ie. double sided

Now for the Fun Part

For this paper lantern I asked my eldest to pick out some paper of her choice from a paper pad I had and then I set to work. I created a handle by placing a ruler across the paper and running a pencil along the bottom before cutting the strip of paper out. Then I set this aside to return to later.

Taking the remaining paper I folded it together and cut half way up the paper all the way a long. I did ask my daughter whether she could cut a straight line but she ended up making a curve. Using the scissors takes some practice to master the skill when you are little and I'm not worried she's not mastered it yet.

Once the paper had looked like I had created a fringe we folded it out and folded the paper into the lantern shape. Once happy with this we added double sided tape to keep the shape and added the handle to the top. Tucking the ends in at the top and fixing them down with double sided tape.
