It's Monday which means only one thing it's time for the #ABC123Challenge hosted by Karen of Two Tiny Hands again. This week we have the letter J which led us to indulging in being creative magpies and turn junk in to jewellery.
My eldest is rather like a magpie when it comes to all things bright and colourful. Recently on a shopping trip she discovered a rather colourful necklace with flowers on it. Although it was rather pretty it came with a pretty hefty price tag too! So we decided to put it back and create our own jewellery when we got home. There are a number of ways in which to create pieces of jewellery but this is a rather fun introduction.
To Create Your Own Jewelery You Will Need:
- A selection of beads with holes big enough to thread the pipe cleaner
- Pipe Cleaners
Now for the Fun Part
This is a great activity for kids learning to use their fine motor skills. My eldest is very used to using these and wont put things in her mouth. So when her younger sister went down for a nap I took out the beads and pipe cleaners and we set to work. She used her fingers to pick up the beads between her fingers and thumbs before placing them on the pipe cleaner. A very tricky thing to learn when you are little but to help make it easier for her I made sure that the beads had a hole big enough to thread through.
I had these beads photoed to hand but I'd recommend trying something a little bigger for little ones. Let your child go to town on what coloured beads they'd like on their pipe cleaner or alternatively consider sequencing patterns and teach them what colours come next.
Once this is finished place the bracelet around your child's wrist and twist the ends together/ My daughter decided to try it around her wrist before trying it around her neck. I think we both agreed that it would be best off round her wrist.
And there you have it one bracelet created to your childs liking without breaking the bank.
Have you tried making your own jewellery?

I love this idea, will have a go with my granddaughter, who actually has her birthday today #familyfun@_karendennis
