How to Create Glitter Eggs

As I write up this post we have been thrust back into the grips of the beast of the east and are surrounded by snow again. It seems odd that the official start of Spring is just a few days away and Easter just beyond that. Here we've been having some fun with Two Tiny Hands #ABC123Challenge and have come up with G is for glitter.

To Create These Glitter Eggs You Will Need:

  • Plastic Eggs that can be hung
  • Glitter
  • Paintbrush
  • Paint
  • Apron
  • Adhesive i.e. glue (I used all pva glue)
  • Hairdryer

Now for the Fun Part

My eldest loves to paint and when she heard I wanted to do some she was eager to get stuck in. I gave her an apron so she didn't completely get covered in the paint from head to toe and equipped with a paintbrush, paints and plastic eggs she set to work decorating them. I found that the cheap paints supplied with these eggs was rather watery and didn't cling to the eggs very well. So it wasn't long before we swapped out the paints for those from another shop.

Once painted you could leave the eggs to dry naturally. Alternatively take a hairdryer to them and they will dry instantly. Be careful not to get the hair dryer too hot when you are applying the heat to the eggs.

Once completely dry you are ready to spread glue over the eggs and cover them in glitter. I applied glue over the eggs and using glitter that matched the colour of the egg poured the glitter over the eggs and once I was happy with how they looked hung them up on the tree. you can see the finished look below as well as some other hanging ornaments I have recently acquired.

Now all we have to do is sit back and admire our handiwork. Have you ever decorated an Easter tree?

  22. Such a cute idea, I'd never thought of having an easter tree. I do have a bit of an aversion to glitter though, it looks pretty, it just gets everywhere. I wonder if you could add the glitter directly to the paint? I think I could handle that.
