This time of year it's so easy to get cabin fever from being cooped up inside the house as the cold short days of winter have you reaching for warm blankets indoors rather than brave the elements outside. However, when the sun came out the other day we spied our chance to get out and fill our lungs with fresh air rather than dust.
Toddlers Come With Two Speeds
The walk kicked off at a slow pace with a hill to ascend. Of course toddlers come with only two speeds painfully slow where no amount of encouraging them to hurry up does it and secondly top speed where you struggle to catch up with your tiny tot athlete! During our walk we experienced both.
The slow and painful ascent was followed by top speed over the wooden footpath that ran through the nature reserve. I think this was eldest's favourite part as she ran down the path only stopping briefly to look at the sign in the area.
Many of the geocaches found along the route were easily located and eldest had great fun discovering them. Her favourite being one in the form of a set of teeth that she tried to scare her little sister with.
Mud Glorious Mud!
It was certainly a very muddy walk with one of the country paths only distinguishable by a fence and bushes. So much of the ground was churned up that the little ones weren't happy and eldest was calling out that she needed a bath. Somehow we got through it though and were greeted by a view of the Dreaming Spires of Oxford.
Then we descended the hill. Arrived back at our car and drove home where we were greeted by lovely warm baths.
Have you ventured outside this Winter?
Hi Helena, I hear you. This winter has been so miserable here that a blanket looks far more inviting than a pair of walking shoes... But it is good to get out and once you've made the effort it's worthwhile.... I still remember the painful days of toddlerhood although they are a distant memory now. My two were never too worried about getting a bath though. It's good your girls enjoy geocaching too, it sounds like a fun family activity.

It certainly does. There are many health benefits to getting outside. It's something that everyone can participate in but I have to tell hubby to leave the find to the girls.
DeleteWe've not been out on walks. We tend to go somewhere rather than just a walk. We've been out a bit, but not as much as usual - I've got a painful achilles at the moment which isn't helping. #sharingthebloglove
ReplyDeleteSorry to read that
DeleteThat looks such fun! It's great getting out but it's so cold at the moment you want to just bundle up on the sofa.
ReplyDeleteYou certainly do
DeleteBack again from #ablogginggoodtime
ReplyDeleteLooks like a lovely walk, whatever speed that may be!! The mud at the moment is the thing that attracts my two to walks so it is good to get out #SharingTheBlogLove
ReplyDeleteMy eldest was happy to go out in it till I pointed out her sister wasn't so keen oops

ReplyDeleteThanks for inspiring me to get outdoors! <3 My two little ones enjoy going to the park. Hoping for more sun tomorrow!
You're welcome. My girls love the park too.
DeleteOoh
ReplyDeleteOoh you’re not too far from me - I’m on the Oxfordshire border in berks. There’s some lovely walks around these parts aren’t there? This sunshine makes it so much easier to get out.Would thoroughly recommend the hills above Goring/Streetly for a toddler friendly walk with amazing views! #coolmumclub
Thanks for the recommendation
DeleteThe two speed toddler is so true - it's the struggle of my life! It's so muddy everywhere with us at the moment, our wellies have never been so dirty. I don't mind it so much when it's sunny to go with it though - although a bit warmer wouldn't go amiss! Thanks for joining us at #SharingtheBlogLove
ReplyDeleteI'm all for slightly warmer weather too
DeleteWe love a good winter walk on the sunny day. Looks like you picked a good place #SharingtheBlogLove
ReplyDeleteYes it was a short walk but extended by the mud and toddler speed
DeleteYou are so right about the speeds of toddlers, I had totally forgotten that. I was telling my girls about geocaching today as they have never heard of it, I think we are going to have a go next weekend. Mich x
ReplyDeleteOh do let me know how you get on
Deletewow what a great view, sound fun getting all muddy and wearing boots! Thank you for joining us for #ablogginggoodtime
ReplyDeleteEldest didn't want to get her boots covered in it even though they are the best things to wear
DeleteI love venturing out in the winter, especially with these blue skies we've been lucky to have this month! And yes little ones seem only to move quickly when it suits them! Thanks for joining in #myfamilyadventures
ReplyDeleteYes they do think we revolve around them
DeleteThis looks like a beautiful setting, I can see why you picked this place to explore as a family. It's great that there were plenty of Geocaches for you all to find, I think your eldest might've been able to scare me with the teeth shaped ones. I love that your eldest was shouting that she needed a bath as she walked through the muddy pathways, so cute.
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up with me on #CountryKids.
It's the little things that add up to great memories
DeleteIts so true that its easier to just stay inside the house when its cold. Like you we are trying our best to still go out and enjoy the weather.
ReplyDeleteYour post made me miss geocaching! We havent done it in quite a while.
#countrykids
pleased to have inspired you to get out and find more
DeleteWhich reserve was this? Would like to look at ones further away from home, but not too far away #CountryKids

DeleteYay for the arrival of Spring to come
ReplyDeleteMy youngest daughter only has 1 speed and thats fast! We love a family walk and go out most Sundays. Thank you for joining us at #SharingtheBlogLove
ReplyDeleteAhhh this looks great fun. #Coolmumclub
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about the slow pace of toddlers, my toddler decides to become a pavement dweller most of the time. This looks like a beautiful walk and thanks for linking up at #fortheloveofBLOG. Claire x
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful view of Oxford. I can definitely relate to the two paces described - Sophie is very much like this. Looks like you had a fun walk even if it was quite muddy and it's always good to get outside and get some fresh air in your lungs :-) #countrykids
ReplyDeleteI'm always grateful when I read posts like this that my kids are bigger now, the slow toddler walks were agonising towards the end :) #Adventurecalling
ReplyDeleteDee's pretty sensitive to the cold so we don't go out for long! We've had some lovely walks on the slightly warmer / less toe curlingly cold days, and went up in the hills above Folkestone about a month ago to look at the views which was lovely, but steep!! #BlogCrush
ReplyDeleteWe love a walk even in winter. Although today's weather would put us off for sure. Thanks for joining #bloggerpinparty
ReplyDeleteWe love going for walks with the grandkids, daughter and son in law and quite often go up to Shotover and Port Meadow in oxford #MyFamilyAdventures
ReplyDeleteA muddy winter walk... A lovely way to spend some time together as a family. #MyFamilyAdventures
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely little walk. I certainly appreciate the 'toddlers have two speeds' element. We experience those, in equal measure, a lot! What a great view you got of the Oxford spires too. Thanks for joining us on #adventurecalling. I hope you can again when we open for more posts tomorrow morning.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that spring is finally on the horizon, I don't mind the winter but it's seemed to go on for ages! Looks like a lovely walk, especially the views of Oxford, although we're also fed up of all the mud! Thanks so much for sharing with us #AdventureCalling
