It seems such a long time since we went to a bushcraft session and even longer still since we attended a forest school experience. So when I heard that BBOWT were holding a day event entitled Wild Wood Day over the weekend I thought we'd stop by.
Now that our youngest can walk I think she's at an ideal age in which to explore much more. The uneven woodland floor was a bit of a challenge for her and she kept on wobbling over. However, undeterred she picked herself up, dusted herself down and set off again across the ground. She tried out the man made musical instruments with her whole body instead of using the hammer provided and she gathered sticks from the woodland floor.
Her big sister soon had the hang of making music with the hammers and sticks provided. Though her favourite activity and one she made a bee line for straight away was the ball and stick game. She watched the other little ones around her and got stuck in trying to copy them.

As you can see from the images I think the girls thoroughly enjoyed the event. The Wildlife Trusts put on a variety of events throughout the year to bring nature and people together.
Have you been to an event run by The Wildlife Trust before?
I love seeing children enjoying the great outdoors rather than sitting in front of a screen of one sort or another #familyfun@_karendennis
ReplyDeleteThank you. We try to get out as much as possible.
DeleteIs that a slow worm she's holding? They are great to hold, and slightly surprising, I think. I hope she liked it. I do love the outdoor musical instruments, which are springing up. Wonderful addition. Smiling at your youngest using her whole body. Why not! #MMBC
ReplyDeleteI forget whether it was a grass snake or slow worm. It surprised me that unlike snakes that are dry to the touch it was not.
DeleteSounds a great event to me, we love making music here and even have our own stick bashing station for just this. #MMBC
ReplyDeleteI'm sure it's used a lot by the little ones that visit
DeleteThese sessions do look perfect for encouraging little ones to enjoy the outdoors.
DeletePopping back to say thank you for joining me on #CountryKids
What an awesome day, can't beat looking at creepy crawlies X #pointshoot
ReplyDeleteI think it's a great way in which to sew the seeds of encouragement in our littlies to look after the world they live in
DeleteGosh your girls are just so beautiful!!! So photogenic. I can't eleven she can walk, it feels like you just gave birth! I love how you have such wonderful outdoor adventures Thanks for linking up with #mg
ReplyDeleteAww thanks Mackenzie. I think I was a lot slimmer back when I gave birth to her.
DeleteKids naturally love being outdoors so it's always wonderful to see parents taking their little ones out to explore the natural world around them. This looks like a great event to take our kids to! #mg
ReplyDeleteI'm going to go to as many as I can when baby arrives... do you think they would notice if I went now on my own??! #dreamteam
ReplyDeleteI love BBOWT sites. Lucky enough to have so many locally. Thanks for the share. #adventurecalling
ReplyDeleteWe've never been to one of these events, but they sound like brilliant fun! Such adorable photos, it was lovely to hear about your little one doing her best toddle on the uneven floor...! Thanks for sharing with #bigpinklink
ReplyDeleteAww they look like they had so much fun! #bigpinklink
ReplyDeleteI sometimes wish we lived in the UK only for those fabulous events organised by the Wildlife Trust! Congratulations on your little one walking, you'll see, it'll soon make a world of difference to your days out. Both your girls look so darn cute by the way. x

They touch snakes! WOWOW! Looks like a lovely outdoor time for all! Snakes to I suppose! #pointshoot xo
ReplyDeleteWe love a good day of forest exploration and my two can spend hours just foraging for sticks and treasures at this time of year. Looks like a great event. Thanks for linking to #DreamTeam x
ReplyDeleteOh wow, this looks like such a great event! I love finding things where the children can be outside, enjoying themselves and learning too. This looks like so much fun! x

ReplyDeleteThank you for joining #FamilyFunLinky x
Looks like a fab day out with a great variety of activities - I haven't seen a slow worm for years #Countrykids
ReplyDeleteThey're certainly a great age to start them off with nature. I used to be part of the old Watch nature group round here that BBOWT used to run #counttrykids
ReplyDeleteThis looks like a lot of fun. Love the photo with the slow worm (?) and making music is always good! #countrykids
ReplyDeleteAhh I keep on meaning to try and do a day out like this but I keep thinking that Bens feet are too small for wellies so I'm wanting to wait until then as otherwise he has only one pair of shoes that will get ruined!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this with us at #TriumphantTales. I hope to see you back tomorrow.
Looks like it was a fab event and your girls look like they were having a lot of fun. I love how your youngest is walking now and able to explore a little more (although it brings challenges too!) She looks so happy with her sticks :-) #countrykids
ReplyDeleteThis looks like a great event. The Wildlife Trust does a great job of getting families to engage more with the outdoors. It's such a good age for them to explore and learn too, as you say. Thanks for joining us on #adventurecalling . I hope you can again when it opens tomorrow morning.
ReplyDeleteI've never been to a session like this, but am a big fan of the Wildlife Trust. It's lovely when children are old enough to explore and get so much from experiences like this. Thanks so much for sharing with us at #AdventureCalling
