The last week of our Summer holiday to see friends and family turned out to be positively autumnal. Gone was the hot weather that had burnt me early on that summer and in it's place was now much colder weather. This didn't stop play and we were soon out and about again. This time we took in Château Harcourt and it's Arboretum.
There was of course another reason for starting our adventure outside too. For there was a set of geocaches planted in the grounds which led visitors to the area around the château. Sadly we couldn't find two of these but found lunch instead!

The château came into creation during the 12th and 14th Centuries and work to restore it began in the 17th Century. An exhibition inside the château leads to discovering all about the Vikings who inhabited the area to the creation of the arboretum.
Starting our Adventure Outside
As this was the week that many children in France and the UK had gone back to school we had the area almost to ourselves. We started in the arboretum dating back to 1802, where it was lovely and peaceful. There's something about nature that leads you to just relax and shake off all your stresses. This was the second arboretum of the year for us but it was just as impressive.

Here are a few things to note should you wish to visit.
- Entrance Prices are 4 Euros for adults and Children over the age of 6 years old are 1.50 Euro. Those under the age of 6 enter for free.
- It is open from 1 March to the 15 November
- Times do vary so do check these out before you go

ReplyDeleteThe castle looks so typically French,I can't quite say why but it just has that imposing French castle look to it. Quite a history dating back to the 12th Century and it looks like it has survived really well inside and out. Definitely one worth stopping to visit.

That looks amazing. We did, in fact, visit a castle this past summer. It had quite a sad history, but it's now a beautiful tourist attraction.

Yeay! I'm a big fan of geocaches too - but I'm so very crap at it too! lol! Glad you've found lunch instead. :) I love visiting castle, Château Harcourt seem to be very nice. Sadly, we didn't managed to visit one this summer. But yes - it is on our list for next summer for sure!
