A Baby Friendly Bonfire Celebration at Roves Farm

A year ago I happened across information for a baby friendly Halloween and Fireworks event at Roves Farm. Frustratingly that event was sold out but I held out hope that it would return the next year and this time I made a note of when the tickets went on sale. 

As it happened it was during our trip to France that the tickets became available. Fortunately we had an internet connection and we snapped up family tickets. Then waited hoping the girls would enjoy it as much as we thought they might. 

Apparently the event started with friends and family before snowballing into being what it is today. An event for every family who wants to come along. I believe it is one of a handful of events put on for babies in the country. 

The Children's Playgrounds

As we made our way down the dirt track towards the farm we pulled up in their car park and descended on the children's playgrounds with the girls. It was not long after that a lady told us we'd parked in the wrong place so while hubby moved the car eldest continued to play on the outdoor activities under my watchful eye. 

After greeting the animals that had been put to bed for the night. The girls were having great fun running around the soft play area jumping in and out of the ball pits, playing in the sand pit and zipping down the slides. 

Beyond the stretches of the play area were falconry displays, sword fighting, amusement park rides and a children's entertainer entertaining the crowd. Even Spider Man and The Incredible Hulk put in an appearance.  Food was also available and while the chips were £1 each ticket allowed us one free hot dog each.

The Main Event

In the midst of all this was the main event. We followed carved pumpkins on stands down to a cordoned off area and stood and watched as archers pulled back their arrows which were on fire and shot them into the bonfire setting it alight. As the bonfire roared into life killing off their Guy Fawkes I talked the eldest through what was happening. I think this photo shows she was impressed despite the fact we were stood in rain.

Then we were moved over to another part of the field where we saw fireworks set off and as they flew into the sky I heard someone say they sounded like a well known rice based breakfast cereal. I pointed out that one of the fireworks was called traffic lights and talked through some of the colours as eldest sat on my shoulders. 

After all this excitement you'd think that the girls would have been tired out in fact youngest snuggled into Daddy to nap but eldest decided she wanted more soft play action so it was back inside for more fun before the farm closed for the night.
