A year ago I happened across information for a baby friendly Halloween and Fireworks event at Roves Farm. Frustratingly that event was sold out but I held out hope that it would return the next year and this time I made a note of when the tickets went on sale.
As it happened it was during our trip to France that the tickets became available. Fortunately we had an internet connection and we snapped up family tickets. Then waited hoping the girls would enjoy it as much as we thought they might.
Apparently the event started with friends and family before snowballing into being what it is today. An event for every family who wants to come along. I believe it is one of a handful of events put on for babies in the country.
The Children's Playgrounds
As we made our way down the dirt track towards the farm we pulled up in their car park and descended on the children's playgrounds with the girls. It was not long after that a lady told us we'd parked in the wrong place so while hubby moved the car eldest continued to play on the outdoor activities under my watchful eye.
After greeting the animals that had been put to bed for the night. The girls were having great fun running around the soft play area jumping in and out of the ball pits, playing in the sand pit and zipping down the slides.
Beyond the stretches of the play area were falconry displays, sword fighting, amusement park rides and a children's entertainer entertaining the crowd. Even Spider Man and The Incredible Hulk put in an appearance. Food was also available and while the chips were £1 each ticket allowed us one free hot dog each.
The Main Event
In the midst of all this was the main event. We followed carved pumpkins on stands down to a cordoned off area and stood and watched as archers pulled back their arrows which were on fire and shot them into the bonfire setting it alight. As the bonfire roared into life killing off their Guy Fawkes I talked the eldest through what was happening. I think this photo shows she was impressed despite the fact we were stood in rain.
Baby Friendly Fireworks
Then we were moved over to another part of the field where we saw fireworks set off and as they flew into the sky I heard someone say they sounded like a well known rice based breakfast cereal. I pointed out that one of the fireworks was called traffic lights and talked through some of the colours as eldest sat on my shoulders.
After all this excitement you'd think that the girls would have been tired out in fact youngest snuggled into Daddy to nap but eldest decided she wanted more soft play action so it was back inside for more fun before the farm closed for the night.

This sounds ideal. I am see why am event like this would sell out #fearlessfamtrav
ReplyDeleteThis looks great- our kids are not keen on loud fireworks so I wish we had something similar near to us! Thank you for sharing #fortheloveofBLOG
ReplyDeleteI love the sound of this - I wish there was something like this near us. I think we're going to try the display at our local primary school - hopefully that will be toddler friendly! #ThePlacesWeWillGoLinky
ReplyDeleteThis sounds great, my daughter was absolutely terrified of firework noises when she was little so this would have been a God send for us back then. Thanks for linking up to #ThePlacesWeWillGoLinky
ReplyDeleteI bet you're pleased you managed to get those tickets! I love how there is so much play before the big event. The free hotdog is surely a winner too! Thanks for linking up to #fearlessfamtrav
ReplyDeleteBlow the kids, this is my idea of a good bonfire night. I am a huge coward when it comes to fireworks #ablogginggoodtime x
ReplyDeleteHi, this sounds like a great way to spend on bonfire night the children obviously loved it #fortheloveofBLOG
ReplyDeleteLooks fun! #theplaceswewillgo
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea and looks like lots of fun. We are going to a 'no bangs' bonfire party on Sunday #pocolo
ReplyDeleteWe are not but we have gone in the past. Locally, a lot of places do a bangless firework display and then a short gap (so parents can leave if needed) and then the louder fireworks.

I love the idea of baby friendly fireworks. I'm not a fan of them, or the fact that they're widely available! Thanks so much for sharing with #Blogstravaganza xx
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like the perfect event for young families. Thanks for joining #bloggerpinparty
ReplyDeleteA family friendly fireworks and bonfire celebration sounds like the perfect way to spend the evening. The girls look like they had a wonderful time exploring all the activities they had to offer there. It's wonderful you managed to get tickets this year, I bet the girls are already excited to go back again next year!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing with me on #CountryKids.
This looks so lovely and what a great idea. No wonder it sells out so fast #countrykids
ReplyDeleteSounds like a lovely event, such a good idea to create a family friendly version. #bloggerpinparty and #countrykids
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a great time. Our eldest is at his first display tonight but I'm also still hoping the darn things don't wake our baby! #blogcrush
ReplyDeleteLooks great we have opted for watching them from the car this year #sharethebloglove
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like so much fun! We went to a fireworks display with my baby and toddler last weekend. I was worried about keeping them up later than usual but they were fine and loved it! #fortheloveofBLOG
ReplyDeleteThis sounds wonderful! I took my 3 year old for the first time this year, but felt that we couldn't take our baby along too, so my husband had to stay home. It would be lovely to know that we could all go along together too, knowing that there wouldn't be any loud bangs to scare the baby! Thanks for joining us at #SharingtheBlogLove
ReplyDeleteWhat a fab idea. How dramatic to shoot the Guy with a flaming arrow to start the bonfire! It sounds like it's a real evening event, and with so much to see and do. No wonder it sells out so quickly each year. Well done to the organisers!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for joining #daysoutwithatoddler - see you again soon :)
Firework displays are always so late in the night here as they always occur over Spring and Summer months where our sun sets so late. Now mine are getting a bit older I could probably keep them up later for a display now, I just don't like the massive crowds though. Thank you for linking up #abloggingggodtime
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a fun event. Its nice that there is soft play etc as well as the fireworks themselves. We go to a local display which is always good fun- but would be a bit loud for little ones. #ablogginggoodtime
ReplyDeleteBaby friendly fireworks are a great idea! We were meant to go to an event but the weather wasn't great so we didn't bother this year! #blogstravagnaza
ReplyDeleteWe went to a lovely display at a school local to us. It was really well done and the girls had a great time. Thank you for joining us at #SharingtheBlogLove
ReplyDeleteWe went to our first fireworks display as a family over the weekend too. It was an early start 5pm to 7pm, so perfect for little ones like me x Popping over from #CountryKids x
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like such a good idea! I love fireworks but my girls, at 6 and 3, are still really frightened by them. This year, I noticed a local event that offers a "silent display" for little ones but, similarly to you, I noticed too late and we were unable to get tickets. I'll definitely try for next year though #blogcrush
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! We love Roves Farm. #daysoutwithatoddler
ReplyDeleteI like the sound of baby-friendly fireworks. Are they a lot quieter than normal ones? Jessica is not a fan of the bangs at all but might like something like this. Sounds like you all had a fun time. #bloggerclubuk
ReplyDeleteSounds like a wonderful time, making it family friendly makes a huge difference in the experience X #ablogginggoodtime
ReplyDeleteAw, it sounds like you had a great time. We took the boys to Alton Towers this year and the display was a little disappointing compared to previous years. We did get to have a Hog roast though. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking to #pocolo
It looks wonderful! We went to a normal fireworks display with our little one, but bought her ear defenders. She was upset by them at first, but after a couple of minutes of cuddling, saying "oooh, aahh!" and pointing at the colours she seemed to enjoy watching them.
ReplyDeleteSounds great. Little M has always been terrified of fireworks, so this kind of event would be perfect. What a great event. #thatfridaylinky
ReplyDeleteSounds great. Little M has always been terrified of fireworks, so this kind of event would be perfect. What a great event. #daysoutwithatoddler
ReplyDeleteThere aren't many places that will cater for younger children when it comes to bonfire night and fireworks, so it's really nice to see somewhere that keeps them in mind too! Thanks for linking up to #wanderlustkids
ReplyDeleteRevisiting through #ThePlacesWeWillGoLinky
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a great event. I literally had no idea that you could even get baby friendly fireworks. I’ll certainly look out for event like this locally in future. Thanks for joining us on #adventurecalling . We’ll be back open for more posts this evening.
ReplyDeleteWe could have done with going to a display like this when our kids were younger as one of them was TERRIFIED of fireworks and as a result I always stayed home with him and the 2 of us didn't go to any displays until he was about 12. #wanderlustkids
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! We took Finn this year and he loved it, but I know that last year he would have been scared. A family friendly event looks great fun, there was so much to do I'm impressed! Thanks for sharing #AdventureCalling
ReplyDeleteThis sounds brilliant, what a lovely idea. My littlest used to get a bit frightened of the bangs so quiet fireworks are ideal. Actually, I wish lots more displays were like it so that the animals didn't get so frightened. Thanks for linking up to #familytraveltips.
