Stones are a great natural element that can be used in a
variety of projects but f you are looking for a simple and fun project to
brighten up your garden then look no further. These bright and colourful garden
critters could make for a lovely summer activity to do with your young ones.
They also don’t lunch on your garden like some creatures you may find in it do.
With the weather being warmer the garden has become
increasingly a hive of activity. While I am leaving the gardening and growing
to my hubby and his granddad (for the time being anyway), I've been considering
what the girls may like to see in it and injecting a bit of creativity. I
thought I’d start with a very simple project and create these colourful lady
bugs that could fit in with the flower beds and brighten up the area.
I discovered we had a few round palm sized stones in our
garden and had some paint pots left over from past projects that came in handy
for painting these critters. The paint can be used on indoor and outdoor
projects and comes in a variety of colours but the ones I had to hand were
black, pink and teal. These contrasting colours were applied to the stones and
dried really quickly making it easy to go over and amend areas if desired
before adding a few spots to the side that will be left visible.
Once I was happy with the appearance of all four stones and
they had all dried. It was time to release them back into the wild so to speak
and decide on where they may like to take up residence. I chose a little spot
surrounded by vegetables but they can easily be moved about. I'm sure they take on adventures while I'm not
in the garden or could it be that my little green fingered babies have found
them!

ReplyDeleteWow this craft brought back some memories - my Nana used to live by a beach and was always collecting pebbles to paint. She had a whole family of ladybirds (which I loved playing with as a child) - I had forgotten about them until now! I think I might need to have a go at this! #sharingthebloglove
ReplyDeleteThis is so much fun! We have always taken my old nail varnish on camping trips so that the children can paint stones and they have always loved this activity. I love that they can make minibeasts and ladybirds though that can then stay in the garden. Super cute!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Helena for linking up to #MyGloriousGardens this month. It's lovely to have new linkers.
I will post a round up by the end of next week so look out for that.x
These are fab - super cute! And way better than the bugs that eat your garden :) Thanks for sharing with #PoCoLo x
ReplyDeleteI love these. We have them in our fairy gardens but I've only thought to make conventional ladybird bugs. These are so colourful and fun, I'm definitely brightening up my black and red collection next time we go to the beach. We are in Brighton in a couple of weeks, it will be perfect pebble collecting conditions.
