The day after we visited Wray Castle via boat, we decided to
keep the girls entertained by going to the Aquarium and taking a train ride.
As we made our way to the car park next to the aquarium the
railway soon came into view and we were greeted by the familiar pay and display
signs. Honestly you can’t go anywhere in the district without having to do so
it seems. We weren't sure what amount of time we were going to spend in the
area so as hubby went to find out from the ladies in the aquarium I stayed with
the little ones in the car.
We decided to buy a combined ticket that covered access to
the aquarium and train whenever we wanted that day. We could also re-enter the
aquarium after our train ride so that’s what we did.
As readers of my blog will know my eldest loves Thomas the
Tank Engine who is a delightful steam engine. So she was delighted when she saw
one of his friends or long lost cousins called Victor and even more impressed
that she got to travel on him. As she ran along the carriages and climbed up on
to the seats her sister bounced up and down in excitement. At the end of the track
was a little playground that the eldest had fun playing on before we popped
into the onsite cafe for a snack. As we ordered we heard that our train had
arrived to take us back to the aquarium. Fortunately we were allowed to take
our purchases on to the train and enjoyed a bite to eat on our return.
Once inside the aquarium again we climbed up a flight of
stairs and got to see a variety of different species of freshwater and marine
life. There seemed to be something for everyone whatever their age. My youngest
was content to be held and showed the different creatures around her, while the
walk through tunnel led someone to comment on how calm she was as she held out
her hand in hope to touch them. Her sister on the other hand was so excited
that she ran through the aquarium and tried to pull out a sea creature in one
of the zones! She also nearly put her fingers in the stingray area before being
told that they’ll have fingers for tea and turning round to jump off a platform
colliding into her sister who was crawling around the floor.
Have you visited the Lakes Aquarium and/or been on the
accompanying train?

This has taken me back to many years ago when my youngest son was mad on trains we took him to a steam railway while we were waiting for the train to start he heard the noise of the steam and threw his ice lolly out of the window in frighr#familyfun@_karendennis
ReplyDeleteAwww poor thing. Hope he's got over his fear.
DeleteWhat a lovely day out...
ReplyDeleteThe aquarium and the train sound like a lot of fun! #bestandworst
It certainly was. They were.
DeleteIt sounds like you had a great trip. I think I went to that aquarium many years ago when I was pregnant with Miss D who is now 14. It was fabulous and the tunnel is really good. I love the picture I have in my head of your eldest running round at full speed #bestandworst x
ReplyDeleteWe had to slow her down so she could see everything. We also took baby out of her baby carrier too so she could have a better look.
DeleteNot been but sounds a lovely day and got to love steam trains and children putting hands into things they should not. #bloggerclubuk

DeleteBoth of my children love Thomas too and would love to go on a steam train. They also love fishes so a train ride and an aquarium would be a pretty perfect day for them! Glad you enjoyed. Thanks for sharing at #familyfun
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised you've not been on a steam train ride yet. The children would love it I'm sure.
DeleteWhat adventurous little ones you have. I do remember mine running down the corridors at a similar age in an aquarium. The fish are fascinating and they have no fear! How wonderful to combine the visit with a stream train ride. Two great adventures all in one. Thomas land hadn't been invented when mine were young so every train was a Thomas train to them! Your children are at a lovely age, it must be such fun taking them on these adventures.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing with me on #CountryKids
It certainly is. You never know how they are going to act.
