Many people had two weeks off at Christmas not my hubby he worked nearly every day bar Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Regular readers would also be aware that he even worked Christmas Eve leading to him coming home and crawling in to bed while I took our two under two to Christmas Eve Mass.
So this week has come as a joy to relax in each other’s company and go out with the girls. On Tuesday I went to toddler group with the eldest and she enjoyed it so much that on Wednesday while out with Daddy she was very disappointed that she wasn't going with him and going to the post office with him instead.
We picked up a couple of pre-loved toys too this week a wooden kitchen and dolls cradle so the eldest has had great fun playing with those.
On Thursday we went to Goring to see the display of flowers left outside George Michael’s home where it is said that he passed away. I was asked to take a photo of someone next to the flowers and she told me she’d visited three times since he passed away. She told me that she was there when a couple from Derbyshire had driven down in the morning to lay down the G and M floral arrangements and while we were talking a robin appeared. I was aware of the significance of white feathers but not robins till now. The book in the church was full of farewells to the singer and they’d written a prayer for him for people to pick up.
Today is the arrival of twelfth night and the Christmas décor came down this morning. The room seems less cosy and more spacious. Thoughts of going for a walk have been shelved as it’s freezing cold here and raining.
How was your week?

Sounds like you have had some lovely family time and it must have been so humbling to show your respects at George Michael's home #ThatFridayLinky
ReplyDeleteWe certainly did.
DeleteWe always say that our little Robin is a visit from my Mum who passed away a few years ago, she always loved birds and this seems a lovely way to remember her. #weekendblogshare
ReplyDeleteAwww that's so sad. I bet every time you see a Robin it pulls at your heart. One of our family friends passed away ages ago loved creating pottery and clay animals in life. Her favourite was the Scottish cattle and one appeared in front of her son on the way to her funeral.
DeleteIt's hard trying to spend time together with work etc, but I'm glad you managed to get some days together. Thanks for linking up to #ThatFridayLinky
ReplyDeleteYes it sure is. We cherish the time we do have together.
DeleteSounds like you all needed the week together to relax, good to get quality family time. Those tributes and story are touching, so sad x Thanks for sharing with #WotW

ReplyDeleteHe often is poor man. It definitely is it sounds like depression may have caused it. From what I understand we've lost someone who did a lot of good in life. Have you visited Highgate? Thank you Sarah. May you also have a great year.
DeleteFamily time is always special. Hope you have a wonderful 2017. #KCACOLS
ReplyDeleteYes that's true. Thank you. May yours be fantastic too. x
DeleteSounds like you had a wonderful week #weekendblogshare
ReplyDeleteWe sure did.
DeleteHi Helena, your poor husband must be shattered, but at least you've had some time together now. Our decorations came down yesterday and I'm not liking it one bit.... The amount of flowers outside GM's house is quite something. Such a shame he died so young.
ReplyDeleteThank you for linking up to the #MMBC.
xx
He usually is not helped by early morning shifts when he's more of a night owl. Awww Christmas will come again. Yes he deserved each and every one of them. I love the cocktail the best.
DeleteOh wow look at all of those flowers, that's so touching, it made me feel quite emotional! Family time is always special, especially when we are reminded of how short life can be. Thank you for linking with #fortheloveofBLOG
ReplyDeleteHe did a lot of good in his life so it's understandable so many tributes were left. I'm actually surprised that the alleyway was still passable.
DeleteIt must've been lovely to spend some quality time together after such a busy few weeks over Christmas. So many floral tributes and the outpouring of love is outstanding. I'm sure it must've been quite overwhelming.
ReplyDeleteKeep warm & have a good week
#WoTW
It sure was. Hubby got fully immersed in looking after the girls and giving me a bit of a break. He really is a wonderful dad to them. From what I've heard he was a lovely man and did a lot of good. It's so sad he has passed away.
DeleteIt's unfortunate you were unable to spend all of Christmas together but nice that you've had some time since. Our Christmas decorations also came down on the twelve day and I was surprised how spacious our lounge looked!
ReplyDelete#KCACOLS
We had a lovely week together. It is surprising how spacious the place looks with the removal of the decor and seems rather strange right?
DeleteWow what a diplay! It's amazing how a community will come together to celebrate a life! I too took my decorations down and had forgotten how much bigger our living room is without them! #ThatFridayLinky
ReplyDeleteYes I wasn't aware of how close he lived until his passing. Goring is beautiful and his house overlooked the river.
DeleteAh that sounds like a lovely week, especially spending time together. It was sad to hear about George Michael, it was so nice of you to visit Goring. xx
ReplyDeleteIt was and went by so quick. That was hubby's decision.
Deleteyes it was a shock to hear he had passed, he has such amazing songs that I grew up with. Hubby has been playing his music. We really have to celebrate life whilst we have it xx Happy 2017 beautiful
ReplyDeleteWe sure do

DeleteHow lovely that you and your hubby got to enjoy time together. So many flowers outside George Michael's home - it was such a shock to hear he'd passed away. #WotW
ReplyDeleteI was surprised at the fact he lived in the same county.
DeleteSometimes you just need that downtime to just be with the ones you love don't you, and news like that of George Michael can be just so shocking and help reaffirm the important stuff. And always our house feels so different once the tree has gone, but thankfully we soon get used to it again. Thanks for sharing with #PoCoLo
ReplyDeleteYou sure do. It was certainly enjoyable spending time with him. You're right it does.

DeleteIt's nice tht you got at leaast some family time together. It's such a hard balance between providing for your family and being there with them. How moving to be able to visit George Michael's home and see the moving tributes to him. I was very shocked to hear of his passing, it was like a piece of my youth had gone. #KCACOLS
ReplyDeleteFamily time is so special to us it's lovely just to switch off and be in each other's company.
DeleteIt was nice of you to pay your respects to George Michael. He wasn't perfect but he was honest with who he was and you can respect that. #kcacols
ReplyDeleteNobody is perfect.
Deleteforgot to add #kcacols lol
ReplyDeleteYay for family time. How interesting to see the public outpouring of grief for George Michael. I adore the door to his courtyard - so beautiful yet such a shame to only see it due to tragic circumstances. He's free of his demons now. Thanks for joining the #weekendblogshare
ReplyDeleteIt was my hubby's decision to go. It certainly is a beautiful house. He sure is.
DeleteSo great that you managed to have some downtime together. George Michael was definitely a loss, though the scene at his home with all the beautiful flowers is lovely - such a nice gesture for all those who have visited. #KCACOLS
