With Christmas just around the corner I thought it would be
great to interview a number of creative crafters that can offer something
unique at this time of year. This week I am delighted to feature Katie with Pixie&Magpie.
Hi for those who don’t know you, could you please tell us a bit about yourself.
I'm Katie and I'm the #GirlBoss behind Pixie&Magpie. I'm
married to a #ManBoss and mum to one very mischievous 2 year old girl. I love
all types of Art/Craft/Fashion related things, especially if they sparkle.
What sort of creative business do you run?
I run a handmade keepsake business from my home in Hessie
(Hull City of Culture 2017). At the
moment I predominantly make keepsake items such as Animals, Cushions and Blankets
from cherished clothes. These can be any sort of sentimental clothes, from baby
clothes, children’s school uniforms, football shirts to clothes of family
members no longer with us.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to have a go themselves?
Go for it! What’s the worst that can happen? The internet is
a great place to start. Whether you’re self taught, qualified or igniting an
old passion Google usually comes up with a route to suit. Search for something
you’d like for yourself and set about creating it (it’s the easiest way to find
your niche- making an item you already love).
How do you juggle your creative work/life?
I'm still finding my way with this one. My husband runs a
very demanding business working 65+ hours a week and my little girl isn't at
school yet so my time to work can be limited. I have had to be quite strict
with planning my week even down to the hour of when I fit my internet shop in but this is how I work best. There are some late nights catching up on admin
every so often but we have a strict family day each Sunday which makes up for
the long hours during the week.
Where can we find you?
The best place to find me is on my Facebook page here. My
Instagram is here and on Twitter I'm here.
Thank you, Katie for taking time out of your busy schedule to be interviewed. If you are a creative crafter and would like to be interviewed on a future post in this series please get in contact.
