During our recent trip to France we took advantage of the
sunshine by partaking in a spot of geocaching. There’s not many near to our
family so a bit of travelling was needed but it was well worth the effort on
both days.
My husband had assumed that these were in a series but the lady informed us that it wasn't and also gave us her phone number should we need help with anything. We found most of the geocaches that she’d put out to be found including one that others had assumed had gone missing. It was in fact buried and we found a trackable inside. The owner was thankful that we’d found it and it needed no maintenance. We were unable to locate one covered by moss and a couple more we were unable to find any paths leading to sadly. We hate leaving out geocaches but maybe they’ll be there on our next trip.
Then later on in the week we embarked on another geocaching
trip recommended by the family we met earlier in the week. Again we didn't find
all of the ones in the series and there were a number of difficult ones dotted
about the woods that needed special equipment as well as a head for heights. My
favourite one was a geocache that had to be hoisted down from a tree using the
hidden rope. Whereas hubby liked the letterbox geocache which was actually in a letterbox. Carrying our babies in carriers made it
easier for us too although our eldest does like to run around now and stretch
her legs after being cooped up in the car.
If we were going to do further series back here in the UK, I’d
have no hesitation in using the carriers again for the girls and would also separate
some of the formula into a container that slots into place in hubby’s carrier. I’d
also make sure that we had lids for all the bottles and a bit of food and drink
for us adults. We know that the forest can be great for foraging food but we
are no Bear Grylls and I for one will be leaving the forest floor untouched as
much as I can.
Where have your adventures taken you recently?
Where have your adventures taken you recently?
What a great idea for a family adventure. I would probably wait until my little one was a bit bigger though. I don't think I can carry her quite that far. #bestandworst
ReplyDeleteThen they can find them too :)
DeleteWell I have to confess I had to look geocaching up!! It sounds so fun though. It's great that you are having all these adventures with the kids and how cool that you found one people assumed was lost! Looks like a great day out. #familyfun
ReplyDeleteGeocaching definitely is fun. It takes you to a number of lovely places.
DeleteWe were all about the baby carriers! Looks like you had a great time! #bestandworst
ReplyDeleteIt was great. Thanks
DeleteThis sounds amazing! We love geocaching too and try to fit one into almost every walk we do - there is nothing like the feeling of disappointment when you don't find one is there? I love that you found the owners of the geocache, so kind of them to give you their number! We have met an owner before lurking to check if we had managed it, and he seemed very impressed when we said we had. It is such a lovely community! #familyfun
ReplyDeleteIt sure can be frustrating when you can't find one definitely. It is a lovely community I agree.
DeleteAaah my co-hostess Karen will love this she is the one who introduced me to Geocaching, it really does sound like fun though and a great thing to be a part of. Glad you all had a great day out, it does look like a fun activity for everyone to enjoy! thanks for sharing with us at #Familyfun, hope you can come back next week xx
ReplyDeleteYes I hear she's caught the addiction for it too. It definitely is fun for all the family and can add to the fun of visiting a place. :)
DeleteI have friends that love Geocaching but we have never tried it. We were meant to do it in France this year but couldn't because of the rain x
ReplyDeleteCome rain or shine we are out in all weathers. Not so keen on thunder storms though.
DeleteI keep hearing so much about geocaching, I really need to give it a go as my son would love it.

Go on, Go on,
DeleteHi Helena, it sounds as if you had fun searching for the geocaches. It's nice that your whole family enjoys it together, although I am pretty sure that your youngest has no idea what is going on.
ReplyDeleteIt is something that sounds like fun, but when I looked into it on the island there were very few.

We sure did. I think she loves walks lulls her into sleep.
DeleteI love geocaching and its so fun to do in a new place. We were camping recently and I forgot to look and see if there were any nearby! #WhatevertheWeather
ReplyDeleteOh it's a great way to explore somewhere new for sure. Ah maybe next camping trip?
DeleteI'm so pleased I've got myself a close caboo so much easier to deal with. Many geocachers are friendly and helpful. Looking forward to hearing all about your weekend.
ReplyDeleteA bit like Pokemon Go but in our family's eyes much better as the finds are physical objects.
ReplyDeleteWe love a bit of Geocaching in our house, and there is nothing more frustrating than being beaten by one grr...
ReplyDeleteI agree
DeleteI really need to get into geocaching! I have the app but am yet to try it out properly. Thanks for linking up! #bestandworst
ReplyDeleteIt's great fun and addictive.
DeleteI've never tried geocaching, though whenever I read about someone else's adventure it makes me wonder why not. We have come back from France where my kids were busy out catching Pokamon, personally geocaching appeals more! Sounds like the owner turned up on the first day just in time and was very helpful, well done on all you found and the carriers sound like a great answer to family geocaching.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing with me on #CountryKids
I can see the lure with Pokemon but physical caches are so much more fun to me. Perhaps you could set up some on your premises and see what they think.
DeleteI've only ever seen geocaches on the ground. Love the idea of lowering them down on a rope. That is fun. We carried our babies and toddlers everywhere. Back strengthens as they grow. #CountryKids
ReplyDeleteAh there's a lot of different ones out there. There's a fav points rating to each so you can see the popular ones.
DeleteSounds like great fun, I've never tried geocaching but I'm keen to give it a go when my son is a little older and can join in. #whatevertheweather
ReplyDeleteIt sure is. Hope you have lots of fun with your son.
DeleteWe went Geocaching once but unfortunately it was cut short as my boy hurt himself badly & really didn't want to carry on. But you've reminded me/inspired me to give it another go. So glad you had a great time and what a fabulous adventure xx
ReplyDelete#MMBC
Oh no poor thing. Great that you've been inspired to try again.
DeleteWhat a great way to spend your time in France. We still haven't done it yet (in either country) #countrykids
ReplyDeleteIt's all over the world, originated in America. It allows you to see the world differently.
DeleteWe've often thought about geocaching but just haven't got around to doing anything about it. It looks like it could be great outdoors fun and we love trails and treasure hunts.
ReplyDelete#countrykids
Then I'm sure you'll love it too.
DeleteI love going Geocaches. We have only been once but Wow! It was so much fun! I would love to go again soon but the weather has not been that good lately. I love that you have done it in France - what an experience! So glad that you have bumped into the couple that own the Geocaches. So funny how things turn out.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for linking up with us on #FabFridayPost
Many will go whatever the weather. Mind you I wont take the girls out anywhere in rain at the moment.
DeleteWe love geochaching and its nice to know that you found everything. We didnt find the frist few ones when we started. #countrykids
ReplyDeleteSome do go missing. Great to hear that you are enjoying it.
DeleteWe love our carriers, our eldest is too big to carry far now, although he does love snuggling up on my back for a few minutes! Littlest still goes in for long walks as he just can't walk that far, or when he can it takes soooo long to get anywhere! I love the sound of the rope geocache, that sounds great! Thanks so much for linking up to #WHatevertheweather :) x
ReplyDeleteAww bless him. I understand that problem with my daughter. Yes I do like those type of geocache.
DeleteGlad you had fun geocaching in France and managed to find one that others thought was missing. I've just starting geocaching and haven't been very successful so far but it's fun trying to find them! Carriers are so good for things like this too :-) #countrykids
ReplyDeleteSome do go awol from time to time. You are best looking at when they were last found.
Deleteloads of my friends do this and I didnt realise you could do this abroad too!! looks like great fun
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking to #ablogginggoodtime
Yes it's universal
DeleteBaby wearing makes exploring life so much easier. Whenever we go walking where I know there are stony paths or paths with large tree roots we take the carriers with us. I haven't done any geocaching yet but I am going to look into it for next summer. Looks like a great family activity. Thank you for linking up with #ChasingNature
ReplyDeleteI agree it is fantastic especially over rough terrain and you get lovely snuggles.
DeleteI've never ever heard of geocaching before, but it sounds very interesting! Haha! I used to love my baby carrier. It's a shame that Esme is too big to fit in one now - it used to be a life saver! #ChasingNature
ReplyDeleteIt sure is lots of fun. Baby carriers are great.
DeleteI love the idea of a cache hidden up a tree that you hoist down with a rope - how cool is that? Do you mind me asking where in France you were? Do you have family there? (I'm French myself so just being a bit nosey, sorry!).
