Finding Geocaches in France

During our recent trip to France we took advantage of the sunshine by partaking in a spot of geocaching. There’s not many near to our family so a bit of travelling was needed but it was well worth the effort on both days.

On the first day we decided to stop for a picnic in the play park before we took on the walk around the forest. There was a geocache located at the play park too but we were just giving hope of ever finding it when a lady and her daughter approached us and asked whether we were looking for it. As luck would have it they were the owners and had gone off to dry it out before replacing it in its hiding place. We were thankful that we had discovered it, quickly signed the log book and soon were on our way to find the others.

My husband had assumed that these were in a series but the lady informed us that it wasn't and also gave us her phone number should we need help with anything. We found most of the geocaches that she’d put out to be found including one that others had assumed had gone missing. It was in fact buried and we found a trackable inside. The owner was thankful that we’d found it and it needed no maintenance. We were unable to locate one covered by moss and a couple more we were unable to find any paths leading to sadly.  We hate leaving out geocaches but maybe they’ll be there on our next trip.

Then later on in the week we embarked on another geocaching trip recommended by the family we met earlier in the week. Again we didn't find all of the ones in the series and there were a number of difficult ones dotted about the woods that needed special equipment as well as a head for heights. My favourite one was a geocache that had to be hoisted down from a tree using the hidden rope. Whereas hubby liked the letterbox geocache which was actually in a letterbox. Carrying our babies in carriers made it easier for us too although our eldest does like to run around now and stretch her legs after being cooped up in the car.

If we were going to do further series back here in the UK, I’d have no hesitation in using the carriers again for the girls and would also separate some of the formula into a container that slots into place in hubby’s carrier. I’d also make sure that we had lids for all the bottles and a bit of food and drink for us adults. We know that the forest can be great for foraging food but we are no Bear Grylls and I for one will be leaving the forest floor untouched as much as I can.
