As the sun rose we made the last adjustments to our packing
before picking up our girls and popping them in the car. The journey was going
to be a long one as we were driving from England to France but we hoped that
the girls would sleep most of the time. For the majority of the journey this
was exactly what the girls did.
Our crossing with Brittany Ferries saw us being entertained
on board by Pierre Le Bear whom my eldest daughter took a shine to. In fact I
felt I had to hold her back before she got on stage with him! There was also a
disco on board the boat, a magician, hook a duck, a soft play area and cinema
with all the latest films liking 'Finding Dory'. So there were plenty of things
to keep the young ones entertained.
Once safely on dry land in France we decided to take a look
at the seaside. Being the first time on the sand coupled with over-tiredness our
visit was short lived sadly but this meant more time to stop and seek out
geocaches. You know by now we are addicted and love to explore places via them
right?
Then we hopped back into the car and continued the long car
drive to Normandy. As we were nearing the end of the journey it was clear the
eldest had had enough of being cooped up in the car. She’s very nearly grown
out of her current seat and despite her height doesn't weigh enough to go into
the next one. So as you can imagine she was thrilled to be freed from her car
seat and was excited to meet her French family.
How do you keep your babies entertained on long car
journeys?
Oh and if you were wondering what happened next to Pierre Le
Bear. He (like many other children) has returned to school, having driven the
boat safely back to England. His piano lessons with ‘I Am The Music Man’ have also been going really
well.
You're so brave for going on long journeys with two little ones... They seemed so fantastic during the journey though! Have not tried traveling on a Ferry with the kids, but I do love to try it one day. #Whatevertheweather
ReplyDeleteBrave or crazy ....perhaps a bit of both. I've got lovely girls who've yet to get to the 'are we nearly there yet' phase.
DeleteIt sounds like they did very well on the long car journey and the ferry sounds like fun. #Whatevertheweather
ReplyDeleteThey sure were wonderful. It's understandable that we all get a bit frustrated at being cooped up in a car/plane etc now and again.
DeleteOh wow good for you doing such a long journey. My OH really wants to drive to France but with a two and one year old I can't face it. I'd sooner fly! I didn't realise there was so much entertainment on the ferries though, certainly something to do when they're older. Thanks so much for linking at #familyfun. Hope you can come back again next week x
ReplyDeleteWith two under two. I understand that travelling can be a worry. Both cars and flights mean the kids are cooped up for a while. Definitely worth going with the one that provides the best entertainment.
DeleteSounds as though it was a good journey! xx
ReplyDeleteIt sure was. My heat goes out to my daughters though as I know that the journey is long but they are coming to terms with it.
DeleteWe use the tablet and put a variety of apps on as well as films, I also have an entertainment bag with colouring things, magazines and books :) We have done several long journeys to France with our 2, it's not too bad once they are settled. Thanks for linking up to the #bestandworst
ReplyDeleteThank you for the suggestions. They sound brilliant.
DeleteIt's something we envision we'll do again so have to get used to. The ferry was wonderful for the girls in terms of entertainment. The company have definitely thought things through.
ReplyDeleteJust take a look at the map before you go somewhere and plan which geocaches you want to take in. Some are better than others.
WE are fans of Brittany Ferries and take the night crossing from Plymouth to Roscoff and then drive to the south of France. the kids are used to it as we do it each year and being older than yours just plug into their music in the car but the Ferry is a welcome chance to stretch legs. I think yours have got the best idea sleeping through some of the journey and entertainment is always handy. I hope you had a great time in Normandy.
ReplyDeleteThank you for popping over and sharing on CountryKids
The holiday was wonderful thanks. If only I could sleep during the journey too it would have been even better.
DeleteYou/ve inspired me to take my kids on a ferry now #countrykids
ReplyDeleteGreat
DeleteI always wanted to bring my son to London and I am scared of the travel! Now I am reconsidering =) #countrykids
ReplyDeleteIs there anyone that could go with both of you?
DeleteThat sounds like a great ferry trip! We've only been on ferries for an hour or so, so not too difficult, but I can see the entertainment being worthwhile if you're on for longer. I hope you had a fantastic holiday? Thanks for linking up to #Whatevertheweather :) x
ReplyDeleteIt certainly was. Going to France felt so refreshing.
DeleteYour girls did brilliantly. We have done a few long trips from Holland t north England via the ferry. Dover, Hull, Hoek of Holland to Harwich. I'm afraid we rely on technology! iPads gaming systems and films. Thank you for linking up to #ablogginggoodtime 🎉
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your experience with me.
DeleteWell done for managing such a long journey and sounds like the girls coped well. Love how you managed to fit some geocaching in too! We had a road trip around France a couple of years ago - we tried to time a lot of the travelling around the girls' naps and break up the journeys as much as we could. Having CBeebies programmes on the iPads was a lifesaver at times though! :-) #countrykids
ReplyDeleteThanks Louise. I appreciate you sharing your experience with me.
DeleteWell done on braving the long journey with your little ones but it looks like they've taken to it no problem! Your planning was also impeccable, which I think is always important when you're travelling, but I didn't know there was so much entertainment on the ferries. Hope you had a lovely time in Normandy
