Whether your children are back at school, heading off to
University or in my case not old enough to attend either yet, there’s one thing
that every child can benefit from and that is a new set of books.
What happened when we recently swapped out the books on our daughters’ bookcase for fall?
In swapping around or even inviting new books in you can guarantee that it will be refreshing and stimulating. They can educate your youngster about the season and act as a base in which to actively teach them about the world around them.
Which Autumnal Books Do We Have?
We introduced the following set of autumnal books to our daughters' bookcase.
Autumnal Activities Inspired By Books
One such book that could provide the basis for an autumnal
adventure is Guess How Much I Love You in the Autumn. A variant on the ever so
popular Guess How Much I Love You book this book could be used to set the scene
for exploring leaves. With time and patience this could lead you to talking
about the different colours of the leaves and the shapes they come in. Perhaps
you could collect some for creating rubbings or an Autumnal wreath. The
possibilities for creative play are endless.
What adventures in Autumn will you get up to? What books
will you read together? Do you have any recommendations? Why not pop a comment
with your suggestions below. Thank you for reading and have a great Autumn.

I love the idea of swapping out books. My daughter is amassing more and more because she loves them. But I can see she's less enthralled by some of her faves because she looks at them so often. I might pop them away for a bit! #MarvMondays
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a good idea.
DeleteWhat a good idea to swap books in and out, I really hadn't thought of that. I do it with toys I just hadn't thought about it with books!
ReplyDeleteThere are certainly some books which come in and out of season in our household, and you're right the children do come at them with fresh eyes.
Guess How Much I Love You in Autumn sounds like a lovely book - Autumn is one of my favourite seasons
#MMBC
It definitely is although my childhood favourite has got to be The Autumn Story with the Bramley Hedge mice.
DeleteOoo I love reading, I never thought of swapping books in and out as we often find ourselves reading the same ones over and over so this is a fab idea.

If my daughter could she'd always be reading the same Julia Donaldson book. Fortunately, she's written others that tie in with different seasons.
DeleteSwapping the books is such a great idea. I love the books you have chosen. The Gruffalo is still one of our favourites x
ReplyDeleteThank you. It is great isn't it, especially the tv version.

ReplyDeleteThat's great. I haven't got much time for personal reading at present. Sounds like you've got the best of both.
DeleteWe read lots of books but at the moment our faves are the ones with dinosaurs in underpants #dreamteam
ReplyDeleteI've not come across that one. It sounds like great fun.
DeleteHi Helena, I used to love reading with my two, one of our favs was 'We're Going On A Bear Hunt'. My daughter is still an avid reader, which is something I had hoped for.
ReplyDeleteI think refreshing your daughters' book case is a great idea. I can't think of a better way to encourage reading than with new books.

That's a great book too. Although we haven't a copy here. Nor did I have it as a child. Great to read that your daughter is an avid reader today too.
DeleteI'm just about to do this, we read two books every night so it's time for some new ones! Luckily The Book People visited our office yesterday so I managed to pick up a great bedtime stories collection. I can't wait to get stuck in x #MarvMondays
