Siblings – July 2016

Where did the time go?! My youngest is now a one month old and the eldest 17 months! Over the course of the month I've seen my daughters’ relationship grow.

The youngest is increasingly more aware of her surroundings and knows there’s a crazy toddler around while my eldest is wondering when her little sister may join her in playing games.

If we put the Moses basket on the ground the eldest tries to commandeer it or share the bed with her. The same happens with baby’s bottle! Leave milk about and the eldest questions whether it was meant for her! On the other hand the eldest is very happy to feed baby her bottle and will leave offerings such as toys and snacks in her basket.

As well as being caring and sharing big sister is also rather adventurous. She knows how to climb in and out of her high chair and furniture throughout the house is being seen as an opportunity to try out climbing! She also tends to climb up next to us when we are feeding her little sister and accidentally nudge her! 

The eldest is rather clear in communicating her desires too and will shake her head to something she doesn't want and gets excited if we offer her what she does want.  She also knows small commands like ‘put the nappy in the bin please’.

The youngest is more of an enigma regards communication and I feel like I'm going through a check list at times to work out what her desires are.  She doesn't like dirty nappies and struggles with her wind.
