We are starting to makeover our daughter’s bedroom in
preparation for the littlest member of the family to move in with her when they
arrive. We discovered a Toddler Sleigh Bed on Freegle and brought it home on
Monday. It is very low down to the ground so if she does fall off she won’t
travel far. I'm also considering Gro to Bed bedding for her that seems to act
like a sleeping bag which may act as reinforcement and keep her nice and toasty
warm.
On Tuesday i had her weighed. My little one looks so big on
the scales now. However, despite appearances she has come in at less than 9kg
meaning we still can’t put her in the next stage car seat yet. This means we
will need to keep hold of the car seat we were considering selling.
We've also been advised to encourage our daughter to drink
from cups instead of bottles as she’ll think the new baby’s bottles are hers. She
has been trying to drink from cups but gets super soaked in the process. It is
a good job we are having lovely summer days at the moment.
Besides my pregnancy books my daughter has her own book on
babies. I'm not sure how much she understands being 15 months but it is lovely
to sit down and go through the pictures with her.
Finally the Parenttalk class I attended last night was an
eye opener. How can it be possible to have children but they be so different
despite having the same parents?
So just to recap we have:
1) Made way for a new bed
2) Weighed our daughter
3) Tried switching from bottles to cups
4) Got books featuring babies
5) Heard a Parenttalk class on siblings
Is there anything else we can do to prepare ourselves?

There are lots of no spill beakers available now, some are better than others. They might be worth a try. Love the bed, what a delight.
ReplyDeleteWe've got a whole range for her but we keep reverting back to bottles.
DeleteLots of prep going on with you. Oh yes, my two kids are so different in so many ways, it is amazing! Thanks for sharing with #WotW x
ReplyDeleteThere sure is. In which ways do they differ?
DeleteSound like you're getting her well prepared. Have you tried sippy cups, the tops are covered with one place to sip out of.
ReplyDeleteYes it was actually one of those she managed to soak herself with. I think the sports beakers may be a tad better.
DeleteThere's no better way of learning than in at the deep end! Sounds like you're ready for the onslaught. Best of luck to you all.
ReplyDeleteOh I do hope so. Thank you.
DeleteIt's so exciting waiting for a new arrival! I have three (all well grown now) but they were all two years apart and the bringing in a new sibling was a lot easier than I thought it would be. I don't remember a lot of jealousy issues as they were so young.
ReplyDeleteGood luck and enjoy! Time goes SO fast!
Gosh you had your hands full. Thank you.
DeleteLots of very busy preparations!! I hope that your daughter does well with the changes and is very happy when the new baby arrives. I am sure that with your help and guidance you will have two very happy children! Thank you for joining Five On Friday this week, hope you have an enjoyable weekend!
ReplyDeleteI sure hope so. Thank you for the good wishes.
DeleteOhh I never heard about the bottles before, my son never tried to drink out of my daughters bottle! Hope you get all sorted soon! Popping over from #WotW
ReplyDeleteIt was a new one on me too
DeleteOhh! How exciting! It sounds like you have been busy preparing!
ReplyDeleteThat bed looks great x
Thank you. She has been running up and down it since we got it. :)
DeleteAn exciting time for you all. Good luck :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you
DeleteAww that bed! I would definitely want to sleep there! Sounds like a busy & exciting week! #wotw
ReplyDeleteJust keeping things environmentally friendly.
DeleteHi Helena, watching children go from one stage to the next is quite fun. I remember my two used to lose most of their drink from the sides of the cup when making the transition.
ReplyDeleteThe toddler sleigh bed sounds perfect and I've read about the Gro To Bed bedding and it sound the answer t keeping little ones snug in bed at night.
xx
Hi Debbie, thanks for the comments. I imagine you are right with practice and perseverance she'll get it.
DeleteMy hubby is thinking it would save our backs if she transitioned now. I imagine waking up to her eyes peering back at us in the dark.
Sounds like you're making fab preparations - and that sleigh bed looks so cute x
ReplyDeleteThank you Stephanie
