On Thursday I was due to go to the doctors and see the diabetic nurse. Not one to stop my hubby from going out while I kept close to home I suggested he took our daughter out for the day. This is what they got up to at Fort Nelson.
You can walk freely throughout the grounds and touch the exhibits on display. In one of the rooms they overheard a conversation given by an elderly man talking to a couple of family members. It sounds like he was a former signal officer for he had taken hold of some flags on display and was showing them how he used to use them.
On the day there was no firing. Just as well as I think our daughter would have been frightened by the loud sounds of gunshot. There was however plenty to see both inside and outside meaning it’s a great place to visit whatever the weather and there’s even a few geocaches about. At Fort Nelson there’s about 5 or 6 so hubby decided to tackle all but one of them on their day out.
Well that’s it from our little family today but I leave you with a picture of our very sleepy daughter.
Described as being a Victorian fortification and ‘....home
to the Royal Armouries collection of artillery and historic cannon....’ according to their website. Fort
Nelson resides in Portsmouth, Hampshire and is free to enter. If you love learning about history and armoury like my husband and daughter appear to do then this place is for you.

Such a lovely day out, but the highlight has to be that adorable sleep standing photo at the end. Awwww bless!! #bestandworst
ReplyDeleteThey sure had a lovely day.
DeleteLooks like a fun day out! Your daughter is just so cute!! Thanks for sharing #BestandWorst
ReplyDeleteIt was for two historians in the family. Thank you for the compliment.
DeleteCan't believe you were lucky enough to have blue skies yesterday! Looks a great place to explore and let the little ones tire themselves out, which from the last photo, appears to have worked a treat :) #BloggerClubUK
ReplyDeleteOh no not yesterday - Thursday of last week. Yes hubby did tire her out didn't he poor baby.
DeleteFort Nelson is a great place to visit - especially as it's free. We went there just after Christmas for a day out and the girls enjoyed it very much. I didn't know that there were any geocaches there though - that's worth knowing if we visit again. Glad you had a lovely day out and that last photo is adorable :-)
ReplyDeleteIt seems we can't leave home without looking up the area we are visiting for geocaches.
DeleteI love that you can touch things here, we recently went to an NTS property that had so many signs up to say don't touch that it felt a bit too stressful taking a 2 year old with us. Looks like a great place and free!!! #whatevertheweather
ReplyDeleteI can imagine. Toddlers get into everything!
DeleteThat final photo is just perfect, she must have had an absolute ball! They should hire retired people to give talks in these places...I bet the old guy was amazing to listen to! TY for linking up to #FamilyFun 🎉
ReplyDeleteThank you. I agree it does sound like my hubby would have loved to hear more from him.
DeleteA good idea to make a day of it!

DeleteDaddy daughter days are great. Hubby often takes our little girl out just to garden cnetre and then they go for a drink. This place looks fab; lots to do...no wonder your daughter was so tired. Thanks for sharing with #bestandworst x
ReplyDeleteI agree. It's wonderful for them to bond while we get a bit of rest.
DeleteLooks like a lot of fun :) Great photos and really good timing that the signal man happened to be visiting that day too!
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up to #BloggerClubUK :)

DeleteAwe, your daughter looks so tired and exhausted! She must have had such a fun day. #countrykids
ReplyDeleteI think you're right :)
DeleteSuch a cute picture at the end, all that history clearly had exhausted her! A great place to be able to visit for free, always a result and educational too. the building itself looks huge, it must have been quite an adventure for little legs. Hope your appointment went well too and well done Daddy getting out and about. Thank you for sharing with me on #CountryKids
ReplyDeleteAww Thanks yes Daddy does know how to tire out our baby girl. We love history and education in this family. My appointment went well and have a follow up soon.
