An Amble in Appleton

I don't know about you but the winter months always leads me to desire hibernation. However, hubby was on a mission to drag us out of the house and into the great outdoors. He also wanted to achieve a souvenir in return for his effort. So on New Years Day we headed out on a little winter walk to the west of the county.

As we headed over to Appleton we were reminded by our eldest who sat snuggly in the back of the car that this was the way that we took when we headed out to see the reindeer. I'm unsure as to how she manages to recall which way is the local supermarket, her swimming classes or the reindeer but her orientation is fantastic. She was right of course about the reindeer being housed over Christmas in a barn in Appleton but wrong about what we were going to do.

We usually use the gps to locate where we have to get to and while hubby drives I navigate. Think of it a little like rally car driving only slower. Even so we nearly headed past our turn off to the destination. Zooming in closer we could see that we were indeed right to turn off  down a dirt track and head towards what looked like a farm. There we got out stretched our legs and donned our warm jackets before setting off over a field to our destination. On our way we spotted many a Christmas decoration and we all got a surprise when we looked inside the barn and saw Father Christmas staring back at us.

Then it was off across the fields to search for the geocache. Eldest understood that it was to be spotted near the bridge but our youngest who wasn't sure how far we were intending to walk suggested she may like to be picked up. She was encouraged along the field with her hand held and she watched contentedly as her older sister and father jumped in the ditch and began their
search for the geocache.

I do wonder that had I got in there too she'd have probably joined us all. Instead I decided to see what photos I could take of the scenario and she stayed on the bank with me.

A small run around the field and grave yard ensued after the geocache had been found. Then back across the field to the car being careful not to get run over by the tractor a few teenagers were having fun with.

Have you got out for a winter walk?

  5. Oh yes we went out for winter walk! As much as I love Christmas with the cosiness and food and presents, before long I need to get out in the fresh air, and does my gang! Lovely little walk to start the year on the right foot x
