What's in our Nature Backpack?

I've written many posts about our geocaching adventures on our blog but I'm not sure I've ever written about the things we may take with us. So this post is to put straight what the girls occasionally take with them on their day trips with us.
What's in our Nature Backpack?

The Backpack

What's in our Nature Backpack?

We have two LittleLife bags that the girls have been known to wear. One is a ladybird and the other a butterfly. Eldest enjoys wearing these the most and it comes in handy for swaps. Being small it wont house all the things photoed here though.

Her Camera

What's in our Nature Backpack?

My eldest is used to being the model when it comes to our family photography but now the tables are slowly changing as she's got her own camera to take her very own photographs. Presently her photos appear to be very random. There's snaps of parts of the sofa and her sister's feet. Many of them look like they've been accidentally taken instead of purposefully but I'm sure given time she will come up with some great snaps.

Snacks and a Bottle of Water

Snacks and a bottle of water carried by the children really help keem them going that's if they don't consume everything before they set out on their adventure.

A Torch

In the blazing summer sun there doesn't seem to be much need for a torch. However, if we were to explore caves or geocache at night (something we've done in the past) this would be a great addition.

A Magnifying Glass

We took this out with us for the first time on our walk around Gloucestershire and enjoyed looking at things as they magnified in size.

Identification Books

We've yet to take nature books on our trips. However, if we were going for a nearby walk then it would be fun to take one with us.Of course taking a photo of the item and matching it up on our return would also be of interest. A couple of books here double as picture boks and this element greatly appeals to my eldest.

A Paint Palette

We've also yet to take a paint palette with us but depending on your child's ability to draw and paint you may also like to consider taking a paint palette with you and some paper.

So there you have it. That's what the girls have taken out in their backpack and a couple of extra things we've considered. What do your kids like to carry with them when they are out and about?

  1. Ahhh this is so sweet! I love that you take a paint palette with you so that they can paint in nature - that's not something I would have thought of!

  3. How fun are these? I wish we didn't live in the middle of a desert and that there were more than cockroaches and rattlesnakes to find! Maybe we'll put a bag like this together for the next vacation!

  4. I've bought SB a lovely giraffe backpack but so far he's refusing to wear it. He's only little though, so I'm sure when he's a little bigger and doesn't mind having it on he'll be exploring with lots of goodies in it. For now I end up carrying it, but it usually has a couple of books, his favourite rabbit comforter, crayons and a pad. I can't wait to explore more of the outdoors with him as he gets older. He's only two and obsessed with trees and flower already! #ThursdayTeam.

  5. What lovely ideas! My son likes to take his backpack out with him and other than snacks and water I don't really take anything else. I think I'm going to start packing some of these items for our mini adventures! #ThursdayTeam

  8. I'd say a great list of things to carry. I'd only add sun cream or waterproof depending on the weather, but I guess that's what parents are for - to carry all the functional stuff! Have yours learned to use the magnifying glass yet? The children here all hold it to their eye instead of to the object being viewed, it takes a lot of persuasion to get them to do it the other way round!

Thank you for sharing your Geokit list on #CountryKids

  11. Some lovely ideas of things to take out. My four year old insists on taking a rucksack out with her everywhere. She loves her identification books and her camera. Also binoculars and a bug catcher. #CountryKids

  12. What a fantastic little nature pack. All the perfect essentials for exploring. My two girls have that camera and it is brilliant to take out and about so they can take their own pictures. It is fascinating seeing the world through their eyes. Thank you for joining #ThursdayTeam

  13. What a really lovely idea - I think I would also put sun lotion in ours and some wet wipes - as the boys always seem to get muddy or sticky hands when out. Depending on where we are some bug spray/insect treatment too as I am suffering from bites currently.
